Waistband snug, just above your hips. Make sure the hook-and-loop closure is fully aligned and not folded over — that's what's holding the seat width.
Set the panel width to your baby — narrowest to 20 lb, medium to 31, widest beyond that. It's inside the waistband and it takes a moment.
Newborn to about six months: front carry facing you. Straps over your shoulders, then gently bounce or shift your hips to settle them into a deep seat — that's what creates the M-position.
