There's a moment, around the one-year mark, when front carry stops working — this is the carrier built for what comes next.

  • One-move back carry — the Superman Toss gets your toddler onto your back in a single motion, on your own. No second adult, no putting them down first.
  • Three carry positions — front inward from day one, front outward and back carry from around six months.
  • Adjustable at every stage — an internal hook-and-loop closure sets the panel width in three steps: 2 months to 20 lb, 6 months to 31 lb, 8 months to the full 45 lb range.
  • M-position seat, knee-to-knee — hip-healthy in all three positions, back in a natural C-curve.
  • Wide, Supportive Waist Belt — carrying comfort and gentle postpartum belly support, with a pocket for your phone.
  • Soft, supportive, adjustable fit — padded straps that run straight or crossed.
  • 100% cotton — tested and certified free from harmful substances.
  • 7–45 lb, 0–36 months — ASTM F2236-16a and CPSIA compliant.

Built to ASTM F2236-16a, the US safety standard for soft infant and toddler carriers, tested through accredited third-party laboratories. CPSIA compliant. Rated 7–45 lb, one child at a time.

Run the full TICKS check every time:

  • Tight — snug enough that they’re held close and their back is supported.
  • In view at all times — you can see their face without moving fabric.
  • Close enough to kiss — their forehead is at a height you can reach without straining.
  • Keep chin off chest — a chin pressed down restricts breathing.
  • Supported back — a natural C-curve, hips in the M-position.

Two limits to remember:

  • Facing out: twenty minutes at a time, maximum — never when they’re sleepy.
  • Back carry: only once sitting unassisted with strong head and trunk control, practised over a soft surface first.

The M-position seat supports the hip position pediatric guidance recommends — a design decision, not a medical claim.

  • Hand wash with a mild detergent.
  • Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Air dry or drip dry.
  • Check the straps, buckles and stitching before each use, and stop using it if anything frays.
  • Check the pockets first. There is always a pacifier.

Why you'll love our Sprout Baby Carrier

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Superman Toss a fourth carry position?
No. It’s one of two techniques for getting into back carry — support your baby under the chest and hips and swing them up over your shoulder in a single move, on your own. The carrier has three positions: front facing in, front facing out, and back carry.
Once they sit up unassisted with strong head and trunk control — for most babies around six months, but go by what they’re doing, not the calendar. Practise the first few transfers over a soft surface and keep one hand on them until the straps are secured.
Twenty minutes at a time, and not at all when they’re sleepy — facing out gives no head or neck support, so a baby who’s drifting off needs turning back in. It’s in the manual, and it’s worth actually following.
The waist belt is wide and supportive rather than a narrow strap, so it spreads the load across your hips and gives gentle postpartum belly support instead of pressing into one line. Everyone heals differently — check with your own doctor before you start carrying.
Both are 100% cotton, both cover three carry positions, and both use the same M-position seat. This one adds the one-move Superman Toss back carry and the three-step width adjustment, in Ocean Denim. The Bean is the everyday Forest Green at $149.99. If back carry is the reason you’re buying a carrier, this is the one.
